The Simple Things
“You can tell a lot about people by how they handle four
things: A rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas lights.”
On a rainy day, with the damp air seeping into your hydrated skin; Some may feel the growth of the moisture pulling themselves to ground, yet others may realize and take notice of the way the rain
glides down a hilled road, how grass of valleys and concrete aligned mountains glisten as the rain drips down towards South. How the rain bounces from a
drop of water into a body, forming a molecule of one, as the hydrogen and
oxygen combine and unite together.
The elderly may suffer the lose of hearing or the downfall
of sight as their lives wind down to a nearby end; being a victim of abuse from
a person of such anger and frustration is often the case; yet some people meet
to the elderly, cater to their every need; some people watch them, happy and
inspired, to be better for the future is always unknown. When you look to an
elderly man or an elderly woman, take note of the way they look at the sky and
how is shines bright sea blue, do they understand the way our lives are today,
the changing times? Of course they don’t. But maybe some do. Fore, the elderly
might have seen the unimaginable; yet some may with take a full capacity of the
experience for your happiness and pain. We’ve all been through pain, difficult
times, addictions, horrors and terrors, the tragic; but no one can tell form
the smile on your face. The elderly can see through you; Pain changes people,
forever, and you will see, either in your history, present feeling, or future.
The elderly wish their luck to you; they’ve seen your perspective through all
the possible congruent and transparent sides.
Have you ever traveled the world or imagined too? If you
lost your luggage how would you react? Your clothes, toilette trees, souvenirs,
personal belongings, money, etc. all gone. They’ve disappeared. Just like that.
In a blink of an eye all your items you have with trusted with strangers is
gone. What a surprise? Who can trust strangers? But is this anyone’s fault? Is
it yours for choosing the wrong airline? No. You have arrived safely. You
departed safely. You flew through the sky miles, miles, and miles up in the
air. You still have your belongings at home. And the people who love and care
for you. And the people for whom you love and care. Is the world ended because
of that suitcase is temporarily, or permanently missing in action, stolen, or
tossed away? No, it is not. Count your blessings. Other flights may never have
departed, or will never return.
Theme
for English III
I wonder if it’s that simple?
I am seventeen, white, born in
Bayside- Queens.
I went to
preschool there, then Westfield, then here
to this school of
above average students in Union County.
I am the only
student transitioning back to attending classes.
The steps of the
school are difficult to climb,
I leave the
house, I drive to school, I sit in class, I feel very uncomfortable.
It’s difficult at
this point in my life to know what is true for me
At age seventeen
I’m still exploring, everything I see, I feel, I hear.
Teachers,
parents, counselors I hear you- Do you hear me?
Well, I like to
sleep, I can’t get enough of it,
when I’m not
sleeping, I love being with my friends.
They make me
laugh and forget about my problems.
I love receiving
money as a gift, I can spend it on music, clothes and jewelry.
I guess learning
from a distance
doesn’t make me
any less of a student.
I still like the
same things other students like- art, short stories, and poetry.
Through my
experiences, I’m learning more about myself than those who have a typical in-school
education.
So everyone I
meet and everyone I talk to,
becomes a part
of me, as I’m a part of them.
All my teachers
will hopefully learn patience from me,
as I learn from
them.
